Oct 14, 2009 Ended up just getting some tractor paint. Pressure washed, hand cleaned, used a wire brush on a drill for the corners, and then used 180 grit to get a good surface. Then I primed. Currently the first coat of paint is drying, tomorrow goes on the second coat. The stock paint on my mowers usually last about 6 months if you clean it enough.

May 02, 2008 I have a steel mower deck that is used as a mulching deck. I paint it every winter with a epoxy paint for floors and it helps the grass to leave the deck. I thought it would last longer then a year but it is gone about half way thru the summer. Rick

Jan 11, 2019 All steel I paint gets POR 15 chassis coat then usually an alkaloid top coat. For mower decks, the strait POR 15 on the underside and POR 15 with an alkaloid top coat on the outside as I have alkaloids in most common colour matches.

I like to use Engine Enamel for any type of spray painting. It is better rated because it is suppose to handle temperature changes and chemicals found on automotive engines. Since the bottom of your lawn mower will see some heavy abuse you don’t want to go with dollar a can paint or it won’t last a season.

Jan 29, 2014 Paint for bottom of mower deck. Redoing the bottom of a finish mower. This mower is used for grass cutting and just trying to preserve it. Posts: 501. The best thing you can do is keep it as dry as possible and scrape off the debris a few times a season. Most mower decks are thick enough steel that the rest of the mower will dissolve before the deck corrodes too much. Even if it does, a replacement deck is usually a few hundred dollars tops.

Apr 11, 2011 Tractor. Kubota L3400 (gear driven) I've been painting the underside of my mower deck (44" JD Piranha mulcher) with Rustoleum high-gloss oil-based enamel each year and it does an ok job of protecting the deck and making cleaning easier but it doesn't seem to last.
